Our Story
From a bold idea to a thriving K–8 community in the heart of Charlotte.
A Vision Born in Charlotte
East Voyager Academy was founded in 2018 by a group of Charlotte parents, educators, and community leaders who believed that every child - regardless of background or zip code - deserved access to world-class bilingual education.
We opened our doors to our first class of Kindergartners and 1st graders with a single conviction: children who grow up speaking Mandarin alongside English gain lifelong cognitive, cultural, and career advantages. And that opportunity should be free, public, and available to all.
In just a few years, EVA has grown from those early K–1 classrooms into a full K–8 campus, serving over 350 students from across the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region.
2018
EVA opens with Kindergarten and Grade 1. Charter approved by NC State Board of Education. First 60 students enrolled.
2019–2021
Added one new grade level each year. Student body doubled. Received first NC DPI recognition for student academic growth.
2022–2023
Expanded to full K–8 program. Received second and third consecutive years of NC DPI growth recognition. Launched after-school enrichment.
Today
350+ students. A deep-rooted community. A model for what public charter education can accomplish when language, culture, and rigor meet.
NC DPI - 3 Consecutive Years of Growth
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has recognized East Voyager Academy for exceptional student academic growth for three consecutive school years - a distinction that places us among the top-performing charter schools in the state.
